Here at Hippocampus Swim School we have a dedicated team of fully qualified teachers to make sure we are offering high quality lessons.

Our ever expanding team is currently made up of 12 teachers and 3 water helpers. With lessons offered seven days a week we have a variety of staff on each stages.

Swimming lessons are of popular demand with many leisure facilities offering a vast timetable. We pride ourselves on our family friendly environment because you are more than just a number to us. It is important to us that you and your children feel seen. That the staff knows all of the children by name, that the parents know all of the staff members by name. We are friendly and approachable; always looking to make sure we are providing a comfortable and enjoyable learning experience for children, adults alike. Our swimming teachers are responsible for delivering safe fun engaging lessons focusing on producing great technique and personal water safety. 

Our teachers

• Adapt their teaching approach for student of all abilities and learning styles
• Are ambassadors for Hippocampus , motivating, encouraging, and supporting both colleagues and swimmers
• Are Role Models, leading by example and committed to continual professional development
• Are responsible for maintaining their working environment, ensuring that it is kept clean and safe for both staff, swimmers, and their parents at all times
• Are responsible for maintaining records of the swimmers in their lessons, including updating progress and attendance in a timely manner
• Are required to communicate effectively between the office, management, colleagues and communicating professionally and positively with parents of children who are of a concern for any reason such as progression or disruptive behaviour.
• Are expected to undergo regular team training sessions; understand and follow all Springboard policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures and child protection policies; complete incident and accident reports as necessary.

The Role

Hippocampus lessons run Monday through to Sunday and run out of two locations across the week. These are run primarily after school and weekends, but there is scope for daytime school lessons for the right candidate. There is also opportunity to add additional hours during school holidays in our intensive Holiday Courses.

Person Specification

Essential
• Experience in teaching or working with children and young adults of all ages and be able to communicate effectively with them.
• Good Communications skills with the ability to adapt to the audience
• Enthusiasm for swimming or other water-based activities• Fun, hardworking, and pro-active team player with a passion for delivering excellence
• Able to adapt quickly to changing environments, paces, and stay calm in stressful situations• Desire for continual learning and trying new concepts
• Availability for Fixed shifts per term which can include Afternoon, evenings, and weekends

Desirable
• ASA/SE/STA level 1 and/or level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming.
•STA LEVEL 2 People with Disabilities .
•STA LEVEL2 Baby and Preschool
• RLSS NRASTC, NPLQ or STA Safety Award for Teachers.
•Safeguarding Children and Young Adults Certificate

Salary

This will be dependent on prior qualifications, experience in the field, number of hours and additional responsibilities taken on within the role.Training rate will be offered at a reduced rate to teaching

Current Position - Aquatic Helper

The Aquatic Helper forms an initial steppingstone on to the aquatic pathway, allowing learners to gain insight into swimming teaching by becoming a helper within the swimming lesson environment. Learners complete the Aquatic Helper workbook and assist with swimming lessons while being mentored by a level 2 qualified swimming teacher. Learners undertaking the Aquatic Helper mentor programme must complete a workbook and assist a level 2 qualified swimming teacher for 12 hours to be awarded this certificate. This role is for anyone age 13 and above.
